    How STARLINK Works
    Most other satellite Internet services are provided by a single geostationary satellite orbiting the earth at an altitude of 35,786 km. This increases the amount of time (latency) it takes for data to travel back and forth between the user and the satellite, making it nearly impossible to support activities that require high-speed data transmission, such as streaming, online gaming, and video calling.

    Starlink is a constellation of thousands of satellites orbiting at much lower altitudes (550 km) and covering the entire globe; because Starlink's satellites orbit at lower altitudes, latency is significantly reduced to about 20 ms compared to the usual 600 ms or more.
